Joy and woe are woven fine,
A clothing for the soul divine.
Under every grief and pine,
Runs a joy with silken twine.
It is right it should be so,
Man was made for joy and woe.
And when this we rightly know,
Safely through the world we go.

William Blake was an English poet , painter and print maker . He was largely unrecognised during his life time . He is now considered in the history of poetry and visual arts of the romantic age, he was not that much famous but he has done some memorable work in the literature .

In this short poem William Blake wants to give message that joy and grief both are part of life and both are good.
Critical analysis:
He says"joy and woe are woven fine". Woven mens things which are attached to each other strongly . Both happiness and grief connected finely . They are clothes of our soul . Body need cloth to cover it from harm and cloths are there to make our body more beautiful and more complete . The way body needs cloths the same way soul indeed the protection . As per poet soul has pain and happiness to protect it and to make it more complete.

The soul can not be survived without attachments with people , and if we get attached then we will definitely get happiness and it may happen that we get sadness . Meetings will flourish our soul with joy and merriment and departure will make our sad pessimistic soul having strong connection with feelings and with heart . It operates our character and make a us what we should be. Joy and woe are based on experiences of people around us and our attachment with them . Soul represents purity of each emotion and it could be strong also.
As per poet in every grief and longing there is also an element of joy, this is strange but the idea of poet is about satisfaction we can get by the life . If something is giving us pain , so the pain will remain pain until we are having something good in bed confidence and courage to fight against that bad time.

The feeling of joy is the ther but we just need to find it. We are not here for only happiness or for pain , but we are made for both and we can only survive if both are with us till the end of our life . When we come to know that joy and woe both are a part of our life . We can live happily in grief also.
Here poet gives us an example of worm, which makes silk with so many difficulty and at the end it gets its result as the most precious fabric 'silk'. Going through pain is also the same process which results in happiness buy one should have enough patients to remain silent and calm.

In this poem poet wants to tell that one have to accept both joy and pain do not become unhappy when you are going through sad moment ,there are always happy moments also one should not become sceptic towards life and when there is only pain and has circumstances . One have to have the courage to accept everything which happens in life . Man is made for both courage to accept everything which happens in life man is made for both , and if one is not there , man cannot live . Only happiness cans make you mature and courageous and only pain can not help to live your life .Both colours are important to fulfil the rainbow of life . Then only you will be able to understand the world in which you are living.

So, In this poem poet wants to tell that accept both joy and pain. Do not become unhappy when sad moments come there are always happy moments also know that both are part of everyone's life and live happil. That is all poet wants to say in the poem.
